Garden fence panels
If you are thinking of installing a new fence in your garden or simply want to replace an old fence, there are plenty of garden fence panels available. The panels either fasten to timber posts or slide into the slotted concrete fence posts. If you are building a new fence, using concrete fence posts will make it much easier to change your fence panels in the future.
Types of garden fence panel
Close board feather edge
One of the best types of panel available is the feather edge panel. These are very robust and hardwearing panels but they can be quite expensive. They are usually pressure treated to ensure they are well protected against the elements.
Overlap Fence Panels
These are the most common type of garden fence panel and are much cheaper than the feather edge type. They aren't quite the same quality as the feather edge panel but they are still a sturdy panel consisting of overlap slat panels and strengthening battens. These panels are also pressure treated and will last a good few years if you look after them.
Trellis Panels
You can finish your fence off by adding trellis panels to the top of your main panels. These are great if you want to grow climbing plants such as Clematis up the side of your fence panel.
Arched garden fence panels
Arched fence panels are another great way to enhance the look of your garden. Like the other panels mentioned above, they simply slot into your concrete fence posts.
Buying garden fence panels
The best place to buy your fence panels is a timber merchant or local builder's yard. You could also try a local DIY depot. If you buy more than one panel, you should receive a discount on your order. It is a good idea to check the place you purchase the panels from offer delivery, otherwise you may find yourself having to rent a van to get them home!
Maintenance
Whichever garden fence panel you decide to use, because they are made from timber, they will need regular maintenance. Even though most fence panels are pressure treated and extremely durable, they will still need painting with some exterior timber treatment. You can even treat your fence before you install the panels. It is also a good idea to treat your fence every year and fix any breaks you may find in the panels. If you do look after your fence panels you will almost certainly prolong the life of your fence and keep it looking great for many years to come.
